Photobox has conducted research to reveal the most popular dishes in Europe and the most photographed in the world.
To define the most popular dishes in Europe, Photobox, the European leader in photo printing, has analyzed Google search volumes for the 20 most populated countries in Europe to show the number of terms related to the 10 dishes considered in this study. In addition, Photobox analyzed the number of Instagram hashtags related to these culinary specialties to reveal the most photographed dishes in the world. You can read the full study here .
Pizza and ramen are the most popular dishes in Europe
Food is an interest shared by many people around the world, and each culture offers tasty dishes. The study identified the most popular dishes among Europeans, and pizza and ramen topped the list.
The specialty from Naples gained almost 11 million searches (2,000 per 100,000 inhabitants) in total, combining the results for the terms “pizza”, “pizza recipe” and “restaurant” in the official languagesof the 20 countries analyzed in the study . Surprisingly, the Italian delicacy is the most popular in Bulgaria.
Many aficionados of Asian cuisine are also hiding among Europeans. Ramen, a typical Japanese dish, ranks second, with more than two million searches for the three terms analysed, or 376 per 100,000 inhabitants. In Europe, it is the Swedes who love this comforting soup the most.

By analyzing the number of hashtags on Instagram, Photobox was also able to determine that certain dishes are photographed more than others, and it is pizza and burgers that come out on top this time.
With 64,300,000 hashtags related to the typical Neapolitan dish, pizza once again ranks first. However, while ramen is the second most popular dish in Europe, it is the burger, straight from the US, that arrives second on the podium for most photographed dish. Indeed, #Burger has 24,800,000 hashtags so far on Instagram.
