4 Engagement ring trends here to stay for 2023, according to a diamond expert

While couples are getting engaged all year long, the late fall months, also known as “cuffing season”, have notoriously been a popular time for ring shopping and proposals with searches for “engagement rings” reaching their peak in December with an average search volume of 364k.

Whether you’re into ‘trends’ or not, if you are lost trying to figure out the perfect style to choose for your loved one, being aware of what’s spiking interest in the engagement ring could offer you the alternative inspiration that you may otherwise have not considered.

In-house diamond expert Tony French at luxury jewellers, Austen & Blake has shared 4 timeless engagement ring trends here to stay for 2023 that you’ll be dying to get your hands on (or get on your finger).

Fall in love with Toi et Moi

This year, the French-inspired Toi et Moi grew in popularity amongst celebrities like Megan Fox and Emily Ratajkowski, and if you’re searching for a sentimental classic this ring should definitely be on your list.

“Toi et Moi” translates to “you and me” in French, and the beauty of this unique jewellery design is the two complementary diamonds that symbolise two people coming together as one.

What the expert says: “Toi et Moi is an undeniably romantic and unique style that can be crafted especially to your spec for your special someone. For multiple large matching diamonds, they have to be twinned, and so our expert sourcing team seeks the best possible pair to complement the other’s beauty.“

The timeless appeal of the classic oval-shaped halo ring

According to Google Trends, ‘oval engagement rings’ saw a massive spike in interest this year with an average search volume of 14.8k monthly searches (up 50% YOY). This timeless, versatile classic has a growing range of designs available to match the increase in demand– meaning there is truly a style out there for everyone!

What the expert says: “There has been a huge jump in requests for an Oval shaped diamond Halo ring, whether they are regular or hidden halo rings, they are definitely a lot more fashionable right now. With the increase in popularity of our lab-created diamond options I feel our bands just remain the same size whilst diamond offerings get larger and larger. I think the halo oval rings will be in the ascendancy and are our second most popular choice after the round brilliant shape right now. 2023 will only get better for Oval.”

Enduring beauty of art deco

Having first gained popularity in the 1920s and 1930s, vintage style rings are only on the rise again, with many people leaning towards distinctive and unique styles enduring timeless elegance and personality. Favoured by celebrities like Kate Middleton and Scarlett Johansson,

art-deco styles usually combine abstract designs and contrasting colours, whether that is in your centre stone or accent side stones to create a unique (brilliant earth uses one-of-a-kind) piece.

What the expert says: “Here to stay – yes. I don’t think they ever went anywhere, or ever will. Once again, the beauty of this style is that it can be personalised to create what you want perfectly, tailoring the diamonds to your preference to create a state-of-the-art piece.”

Opt for precious coloured gemstones

Coloured gemstones are for those looking to step outside the conventions of diamond engagement rings, and find something a little more unique and personal. These appear to be a popular choice for many newly-engaged couples. With gemstones naturally occurring in a variation of different shades, you’re guaranteed to find a stone in the exact hue you love!

What the expert says: “Due to greater offerings, I have seen an increase in coloured demands. I personally feel that Blue Sapphires are asked for most and will continue to be a favoured stone in 2023.”
