Fewer crowds, lower prices and warm weather are just some of the reasons why September is a great time for a holiday.
As autumn approaches in the UK, the idea of getting some last-minute sun is appealing to many. Plus, many destinations in southern Europe still have temperatures into the high twenties in September, and over 12 hours of sunlight a day.
With that being said, travel experts at Iglu Cruise have revealed five destinations to visit this September for a last-minute break.
1. Turkey

With September temperatures in the mid to high twenties, the climate is warm enough to swim in the sea, lay by the pool or explore the beautiful Turkish landscape. The resorts are usually a lot less crowded too.
Kuşadasi is close to the Ancient City of Ephesus, perfect for those who like combining their beach holidays with some culture and history. If you’re looking for beautiful beaches, the Datça peninsula offers some of the most stunning coastlines in the country.
You can also see sea turtles at Patara Beach on the Turkish Riviera in September. The beach is one of the last remaining beaches in the world where loggerhead turtles come to lay their eggs. Measures are in place to ensure that it can be enjoyed by holidaymakers whilst still keeping the turtles safe. Due to its uniqueness, it’s definitely worth adding to the bucket list while you’re in Turkey.

2. Greece

September is one of the best months to visit Greece, as the temperature is cooler and it can be a lot cheaper. If you’re looking for a relaxing, laid-back holiday, September is a great time to visit the Greek islands as you’ll avoid the crowds as children have returned to school.
The temperature is usually around the mid-twenties, however, you can see highs into the early thirties in early/mid-September too. The nights are cool, meaning you’ll still be able to sleep without feeling too stifled.

3. Canary Islands

Another great holiday destination for September is the Canary Islands, including Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. With plenty of destinations to choose from, the Canary Islands have something for everyone.
All islands see temperatures in the early twenties throughout September, however, Lanzarote is usually the warmest. Things to do on the island include the tour to Timanfaya National Park (one of Spain’s top geological sites), as well as kayaking, snorkelling, jet skiing or touring the island by boat.

4. Malta
