Surprising Travel Trends For 2022

With the summer travel season upon us, Air France has revealed that August is its most popular month to fly, as customers gear up to enjoy their summer holidays by travelling to over 150 destinations from the UK.

For those looking to take off, the airline shares how passengers can get on board with this summer’s biggest travel trends – from top destinations to the perks of flying premium.

Travel Trends – Luxury destination demand skyrockets by over 200%

Air France reveals that travellers are making up for lost time from the pandemic, choosing to go further this summer to explore, with customers booking more long-haul flights than short-haul this year so far.

This year’s top five luxury locations are Mauritius, Saint Martin, Dubai, Thailand and Cancun – all of which have seen a rise in demand when compared to pre-covid travel.

According to the airline’s data, the most popular luxury destination to visit in 2022 is Mauritius. A dream holiday for many, passenger demand has seen an incredible 337% increase in passengers to the island compared to pre-pandemic travel.

Popular for its lavish resorts, travellers can take in the scenery of the Le Morne Brabant Mountain and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam botanical gardens or explore a set of stunning beaches when they visit the top tourist destination.

Travel Trends – Paris and Punta Cana top the holiday bucket list

Air France can now reveal the top most popular holiday destinations of the year so far. Prepare to add Puta Cana, Havana, and Johannesburg to your bucket list.

However, there is one city closer to home that passengers cannot get enough of: Paris. The most popular destination of the year so far, passengers can jet off from the UK and be in the city of love amongst the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower in just a couple of hours.

Travel Trends – The world is back open for business

The world is finally opening back up and it seems the business sector is embracing this with both hands as data from Air France shows that business travel is showing great signs of recovery.

Since the start of 2022, the airline has seen a 318% increase in business travel year or year, peaking on the 6th of April. Whether it’s the introduction of a four-day work week in the UK, the growth of flexible working policies or businesses keen to get face-to-face time with colleagues across the globe, passengers can once again make the world their office.

Travel Trends – It’s the destination AND the journey that count

Travel is no longer simply a means to get from A to B. With international travel having been denied to us for so long, data from Air France shows that passengers are booking more premium flight experiences. And with Premium Economy on board the Air France Boeing 787 offering more space than Economy Class, new seats, and a business class-inspired menu, it’s no wonder the airline has seen a 74% increase in demand for this cabin since the start of the year.

To enhance travel experiences even further, earlier this year Air France unveiled the new business class cabin and is now in the design phase of the new La Première cabin to be unveiled during the 2023/2024 winter season.

Reflecting on the way passengers are due to set off this summer, Fahmi Mahjoub, General Manager United Kingdom & Ireland at Air France-KLM said “We couldn’t be more excited to see passengers returning to air travel – for both business and leisure. It’s encouraging to see just how much people want to explore both close and far-flung destinations around the world, and in more comfort than ever before thanks to our services on Air France. People’s interest of travelling in comfort did not go unnoticed, and because of that, Air France is committed to offering a service that caters to that.”
